With half an hour left at the final race of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Mark Webber lost control of his Porsche 919 Hybrid LMP1 race car and suffered a huge impact as he went straight into the barriers. Webber left the Interlagos Circuit on a stretcher, after giving a thumbs up to the crowd showing signs of consciousness.
Webber spent the night in hospital in Sao Paulo after his crash on Sunday after suffering bruising and concussion. He remains in observation at the hospital. His long time friend from the Formula One paddock, Rubens Barrichello, visited the Aussie driver Monday morning as he posted pictures with him on his instagram page. The picture showed Webber was alive and kicking
Monday morning, Webber stated that he was “Sore” and “… I am pretty bruised and have got a stinking headache.” Webber stated that he has no recollection of the crash or how it happened.
Webber positively concluded; “On a positive note, it’s great that the boys in the number 14 car managed to bring home the victory, which is a fantastic way to finish off the season. I’m already looking forward to getting out there again next year."
Mark Webber retired from Formula One in 2013 to drive for Porsche in the FIA WEC. His Final Grand Prix was at the Intelagos circuit in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
