By around noon on September 3, 2018, just over two months after the company Mahindra & Mahindra christened its multi-purpose vehicle code named U321 as Marazzo, this new MPV will finally be launched. As journalists from all over the country flock to the company’s Nashik plant in the western state of Maharashtra, Motown India team spotted the camouflaged Marazzo on the highway connecting Mumbai to Nashik.
As it sped away, trying to wedge past a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and a Toyota Innova, maybe the Universe was trying to convey that the real fight in the MPV segment would now begin with the coming in of the Mahindra Marazzo. But it would definitely not be easy to dethrone either of the two because both the Ertiga and the Innova (Crysta) are well entrenched in the Indian market.
A lot would depend on the price, the features and of course the engine of the Mahindra Marazzo. It could come with a 1.5 litre or 1.6 litre diesel engine. It is definitely feature rich from the inside and the outside and the company has not compromised a wee bit on the styling and the loaded features.
Just to give a quick comparison, the Maruti Suzuki Eritga is priced in the range of Rs 8.79 lakh and 10.69 lakh and comes with only a 1373 cc petrol engine mated to either a 5-speed Manual Transmission or a 4-speed Automatic. The Toyota Innova Crysta is priced in the range of Rs 14.34 lakh to Rs 21.57 lakh. It comes with three different engine options: one petrol and two diesel with capacities of 2694cc, 2393cc and 2755cc respectively producing great power and torque.
Mahindra’s own Multi purpose vehicle, the Xylo comes with two diesel engines of CRDi 2489cc and mHawk 2179cc. Now the Marazzo needs to earn its place in the sun.
