Royal Enfield has unveiled the much awaited Himalayan motorcycle in New Delhi. The Himalayan features a brand new 411cc, single cylinder, air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC petrol engine which makes 24.5bhp at 6500rpm and 32Nm of torque at 4000-4500rpm. The bike will get a carburetted fuel deliver system and a 5-speed constant mesh gearbox.
The Himalayan has been built on a Half-Duplex, split cradle frame and rides on 41mm telescopic forks in the front and a monoshock with linkage in the rear. The front suspension has a travel of 200mm while the rear suspension is capable of a 180mm travel. The kerb weight of the bike is a 182kgs and the rider seat height has been set to 800mm while the ground clearance is 220mm. The fuel tank can hold up to 15 litres and the fuel supply system also comes with a throttle position sensor. The Himalayan will also will be the first RE bike to feature an only electric engine start system.
The bike rides on 90/90 R21 tyres in the front and a 120/90 R17 in the rear. The electrical system is a 12 volt-DC system with a 12 volt, 8Ah battery and features an LED taillamp along with a halogen headlamp.
