Tata Motors has launched an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) technology on the Tata Starbus and Tata Ultra brand of buses which range from 12m -9m. These buses have been developed especially for metropolitan applications and are compliant to BS IV norms. The AMT technology has been developed with Wabco.
Priced at Rs. 21 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) these buses will come in multiple variants and have diverse purposes as well. The new AMT buses from Tata will come with Economy and Power modes along with Manual and Automatic modes. While in the power mode the transmission's Automatic Gear Detection (AGD) will cater to sufficient torque and power while the economy mode ensures fuel efficiency.
The AMT technology on these Tata buses has been coupled with powerful new engines which automatically engages the vehicles clutch and shifts the gear. The transmission utilises inputs such as driver's operations, engine torque, vehicle load and road inclination for optimising gear shifts.
