Volkswagen Passenger Cars India on October 8, 2015 announced the recall of 389 Polo hatchbacks from the production batch of September 2015. An offcial statement from Volkswagen India’s spokesperson indicated the recall was for inspection and preventive repair of the handbrake mechanism.
Volkswagen India’s Quality Assurance department has ascertained that in certain situations the handbrake mechanism could be inefficient. A batch of handbrake cable retention levers for the rear brake liner may break in certain conditions.
A statement released to the press further indicated that the faulty models have been identified and the repair instructions have been given to the service organisations in the country. Customers who own the faulty vehicles will be contacted by VW dealers and asked to bring in their vehicles for inspection and preventive repair. The estimated time for repair work has been stated as one hour and will be carried out on a ‘no cost to customer’ basis.
