On June 27, 2015, Hyundai Motor India gave a sneak preview of its global SUV – Creta at its plant based near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. The Creta is expected to be launched in July 2015 and will directly competing with the Maruti S Cross (to be also launched in July 2015), besides other compact SUVs like the Renault Duster, the Ford Ecosport and several other SUVs available in the country.
The engines will be mated to a six speed manual and automatic transmission (in 1.6 CRDi VGT), The petrol engine, the 1.6 litre Gamma Dual VTVT, offers around 122 bhp while the 1.6 ltire CRDi VGT (MT/AT) diesel engine offers around 127bhp.
The automatic transmission with 1.6 CRDi VGT is the first in segment diesel AT offering. The “Hive Structure” of Creta offers a robust yet lightweight body structure. “The global SUV Creta will herald a new chapter in Hyundai Motor India’s success story and will set a new benchmark in the SUV segment of India with unmatched capabilities,” said B S Seo, MD and CEO, Hyundai Motor India while addressing newspersons at the Chennai plant.
