Hamilton wins US Grand Prix; Vettel title hopes still alive

It seems that Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari is not going to let Lewis Hamilton win the 2017 F1 series with ease. Vettel, in fact, led the opening five laps of the race that was held on October 22, 2017 in Austin, United States. But at the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix it was Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton who went on to dominate the race and finally win the race with a 10 second lead over Vettel.

Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen came in third, followed by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. With this, Mercedes has secured the 2017 constructors’ crown. As for the drivers, the next weekend’s round in Mexico will decide the 2017 hero. Force India’s Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez came in 6^th and 8^th respectively, bringing home vital points for the team.

In fact, Verstappen was penalised with 5 seconds time penalty for leaving the track while passing Raikkonen which resulted in him missing a definite podium. He had started 16^th and had made up lost ground during the race. His teammate Daniel Ricciardo had to retire early in the race because of engine woes.. Renault new boy Carlos Sainz, like Verstappen saw his team mate, Nico Hulkenberg, retire.

Toro Rosso’s rookie driver Brendon Hartley came in 13^th on his F1 debut.

Lewis (331 points) leads the Drivers’ Championship by 66 points from Sebastian Vettel (265 points), with Valtteri (244 points) a further 21 points behind in P3 and with 75 points remaining to be scored in the 2017 season.
