Suresh Rana and Ashwin Naik have emerged winners of the 15th Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm that concluded on February 4, 2017 in The Blue city of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Driving in their Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, the duo clocked a time of 11:50:44, aggressively defeating the competitors in the XTreme category.
The last leg of the rally which was the night leg this year covered a total distance of around 150km challenging the participants as they traversed through the sandy dunes in the chilly temperatures of the night. On the last day, the participants covered a total distance of around 500km travelling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur.
In the NDurance category, Nikunj Toshniwal and co-driver Suvrajit Dutta won the title, while Karthick Maruthi and S. Sankar Anand took home the trophy in the XPlore Cars category driving the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. R.Natraj on his TVS was crowned the winner in the Moto category.
The 2017 Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm involved close to 2000 kms of racing in the testing conditions around the Thar Desert. Spread across 6 days, the rally was flagged off from Noida and crossed Hanumangarh, Bikaner, Jaisalmer concluding in Jodhpur.
TVS Motor Company: For TVS Racing Team it was a fine victory in the Desert Storm 2017 with wins in both Group A and B. While R Nataraj won Desert Storm 2017 in Group A above 250cc up to 500cc, Tanveer stood 2nd in the same category, Rajendra RE won Desert Storm in Group B above 125cc up to 250cc
