The first day of Force Gurkha Rain Forest Challenge (RFC) 2016 in Goa, one of the toughest off road challenges in the world, saw competitors hammering away in their 4X4 vehicles, with all teams doing their best to get to the top spot. Tan Eng Joo of Force Motors with his teammate Tan Choon Hong in their heavily modified Force Gurkha vehicle was in the lead at the end of Prologue Special Stages (SS) 1-6 with 534 points. The second Force Motors team driver Merwyn Lim along with Hamizan Bin Abdul Hamid closed the day with 505 points to settle in for second.
Man and machine were thoroughly tested not just for skill and capability but also for sheer wit and courage. The 6 special stages of Day 1 saw competitors attempting near vertical crawls and drops, crossing man made holes over logs, wading through deep water and a lot more such extreme off-roading activities. While some contestants were lucky enough to complete the SS 1-6 not all were able to finish all six of the stages. Day 1 saw many fighting to finish each stage while a few ran out of time.
Kabir Waraich in the third of Force Motors vehicle along with Gagan Sachdeva lost out in SS-2 by getting a DNF (Did Not Finish) but got the best time of 2:13 on SS-3 and ended up with a total of 334 points for SS 1-6 in his prepped up Force Gurkha. Gurmeet Virdi along with Kirpal Singh Tung from the Gerrari Offroaders team closed the day with 482 points right behind Merwyn Lim. As Day 2 of RFC 2016 promises more action over SS7-12, competitors also gear up to throw down in the mud once again.
