Day 3 of the Maruti Suzuki
Dessert Storm rally started from Bikaner and travelled to the ‘Golden City’ of
India, Jaisalmer. The gruelling distance covered on the third day was
approximately 350 Kms. It was rally that went past several sand dunes and the
intent was to maintain a lead over others. While some participants survived the
intense battle, some lost track in the
intense battle of strength and stamina.
Leg 3 of the Desert Storm 2016
had 3 competitive stages of 41 Kms, 64.74 kms and 50.71 Kms length between
Noorsar, Bandarwala and Naal. Abhishek Mishra from Jaipur and his navigator PV
Srinivas Murthi continued to reign supreme as they lead the category by
clocking 07:00:02 Hrs. Manali man Suresh Rana and his navigator Ashwin Naik in
their Grand Vitara, continue to trail at the second position by clocking in
07:12:25 Hrs, trying hard for the first
place. Amanpreet Ahluwalia and Virender Kashyap are at the third position by
clocking 07:49:08 Hrs in their Maruti Suzuki Gypsy.
The tough terrain of the Thar
Desert is taking a toll on the vehicles
as out of the 42 cars that started out on second day of the rally in the XTreme
and NDure category, only 34 cars could reach the end of stage five.
Speaking about his experience,
acclaimed biker C S Santosh noted, “Maruti Suzuki Desert storm is one of the
most grueling motorsports and at par with the international standards of rallying.
No wonder, Desert storm is the most ideal rally for Dakar enthusiasts to hone
their rallying skills. I am blessed to hold onto the first place so far, and
look forward to making a grand finish.”
In NDure category motorists
travelled the same distance as XTreme teams but in the Time Speed Distance
format in the Leg2 of the event. SK Ajgar Ali continues to hold the lead with
his navigator MK Mohammed Musthafa with a day end penalty of 00:00:40 Hrs
followed by Jagmeet Gill and his navigator Chandan Sen with a day end penalty
of 00:01:16 Hrs. At the third position was Sharvik Shah and his navigator Nitin
Yadav with a day end penalty of 00:00:02:56 Hrs.
In the Xplore category,
Karthick Maruthi and S.Shankar Anand made it to the top position at the end of
the third day, while Pratap and his navigator T Nagarajan fought their way back
to the second position, followed by Rajesh Chalana and Arindam Ghosh at the

from Kuchri and see participants compete in and around Jaisalmer.
