Okinawa Autotech recently launched the Okinawa electric scooter primarily meant for the rough and tough B2B segment. This electric bike can also be adapted for personal use. We were curious whether this electric scooter could actually carry 200 kgs load as claimed by the company and we put this to test.
Apart from the several fancy features, this e-scooter is meant for a max speed of 25 kmph. The Okinawa Dual is offered with two battery options, a 48V 28 Ah and 55Ah battery. We got the latter inside our e-scooter. The 55Ah battery can give a range of 130km plus. It takes 2 to 3 hours to fully charge the 28AH battery while it takes 4 to 5 hours to fully charge the 55Ah battery. The former, when fitted in the scooter, can carry a total load of 150 kg, while the latter can carry up to 200 kg. The Okinawa Dual has a 250W motor and has a length of 1770mm, a width of 800mm and a height of 1075mm. The wheelbase is 1290mm. It has a ground clearance of 150mm. The vehicle comes with electronic assisted braking system with regenerative braking. In front you have telescopic suspension, while at the rear you have dual tube spring type hydraulic shockers.
THE LOAD TEST: First, we made four people sit on it, all collectively weighing 260 kgs. The e-scooter rode with considerable ease. The rider and the three people went for a spin around and came back smiling. We then added one more person to the e-scooter and the total weight climbed up to 319kg. The e-scooter went about its journey with great zeal. There was no strain whatever on the motor.
It was time to increase the load. But we were running out of seating space. But we managed to squeeze in one more person and the weight climbed up to a total of 372kgs. The e-scooter showed no stress or strain. It rode with great energy. We wanted to load more weight but we had run out of seating space.
VERDICT: The Okinawa Dual is a very capable electric scooter and this test proves that it can truly carry a lot of load without any hassle.
DISCLAIMER: Seating six people on the electric scooter was only for the purpose of demonstration and this should not be attempted by anyone at home or outside. This can be dangerous.
