Perkins, one of the world’s leading suppliers of off-highway diesel and gas engines in the 4–2000 kW (5–2800 hp) market, has made its Hosur plant in India’s southern state of Tamil Nadu, a manufacturing base for Perkins 2000 Series engines.
Since the beginning of 2018, the Hosur facility is producing the 500 kVA 2506D and the 625 kVA 2806D engines. Perkins key strength is its ability to tailor engines precisely to meet customers’ requirements, which is why its engine solutions are trusted by more than 1,000 leading manufacturers in the industrial, construction, agricultural, materials handling and electrical power generation markets. Perkins distributor network provides support wherever needed around the world.
“With products built and shipped within India, we continue to demonstrate our commitment to serving customers here with world class products,” said Pankaj Kumar Jha, Perkins Engines general sales manager for India. “This positions us well to meet the needs of our Indian customers,” he added.
More than 100,000 Perkins 2000 Series engines are in operation around the world today. The 2506D and 2806D are 6 cylinder, electronic, direct injection engines. They are turbocharged and air-to-air charge cooled with certifications up to Europe Stage IIIA/U.S. EPA Tier 3 and to India’s CPCBII emissions standards. Developed from a proven heavy-duty industrial base, the engines offer superior performance and reliability. They are part of the 12.5L – 18.1L 2000 Series ElectropaK engine family, which is the ideal choice for prime and standby power generation from 350-750 kVA.
‘We continue to focus on the India market, as we have the right products, with the right support network,” said Abhinav Gupta, Perkins Engines south Asia marketing manager. The Hosur facility is located 40 kilometres from Bangalore and works to the same high standards as all other Perkins factories. The team at Hosur has produced the Perkins 1100 Series engines there since 2015. The 4000 Series engines are produced in Aurangabad, a green field project. Each location is serving the Indian market with proven engine platforms and technologies.
