JBM Solaris, a joint venture between JBM Group and Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. will invest Rs. 300 crore towards engineering, design and development, manufacturing, supply chain development and other focus areas. At the Auto Expo held in Greater Noida early 2016, the company had unveiled the 100pc electric bus Ecolife. JBM Solaris will now be manufacturing this bus in India.

The Ecolife buses will be powered by fast charging lithium batteries which have a range of 200kms per charge. Through the use of Ecolife zero emission buses, 4,20,000 litres of diesel fuel can be saved amounting to a reduction of 1150 tonnes of carbon dioxide. These buses also come with a plug-in charging facility and are adaptable to different demographic and geographic conditions.
Through this JV, JBM aims at introducing the already proven European technology for EVs, which are sustainable as well as affordable for the first time in the country. One of the focus areas of the company will be in local manufacturing, developing indigenous sources for all key aggregates, systems & components catering to domestic & global requirements.
Solaris will bring forward its expertise in electric buses while JBM Auto will provide its engineering & design expertise, market know-how, manufacturing facilities and infrastructure. JBM Solaris aim to begin production of Ecolife by Q4 of FY 16-17 at Kosi, U.P. The company under the JV will also work towards bringing in the entire range of buses in further phases.
