Montra Electric, an electric commercial vehicle brand and India’s first and number one electric tractor manufacturer, is strengthening its presence in the industrial material-handling segment with the deployment of seven E-45 electric tractors at Action TESA’s manufacturing facility in Visakhapatnam. Action TESA was founded in 2009 as part of the Action Group, which in turn was established in 1972. The Action Group has grown into a family of brands, investing across diversified sectors such as footwear, power, real estate, engineered wood, healthcare, chemicals, and mineral mining.
The initiative positions Action TESA at the forefront of the shift towards cleaner industrial operations, as it evaluates electric tractors as an alternative to conventional diesel-powered vehicles used for material movement and intra-facility logistics. The deployment will allow the company to assess the E-45’s performance, utilisation and suitability for its day-to-day operational requirements, while advancing its broader sustainability objectives.
Montra Electric has been actively engaging with the MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) and plywood manufacturing industries through deployments, demonstrations and customer evaluations to showcase the potential of electric tractors in industrial applications. With growing interest in ESG-led manufacturing practices, the sector presents a significant opportunity for the adoption of electric mobility. The E-45 is designed to address applications involving regular material movement and short-haul transportation, demonstrating how electric tractors can be deployed beyond conventional agricultural use cases.
A key focus of the deployment will be the environmental and economic benefits of transitioning from diesel-powered tractors. Based on the operating profile of the deployed vehicles, the shift is expected to help Action TESA save approximately 50,000 litres of diesel annually, avoid 131 tonnes of tailpipe CO2 emissions annually and deliver estimated operating cost savings of Rs 40 lakh per annum. These benefits will offer a tangible illustration of how electrification can support both sustainability commitments and operational efficiency in the manufacturing sector.
The initial deployment comprises seven E-45 electric tractors, with Action TESA evaluating the potential for a phased expansion across its operations based on performance and operational suitability. To date Montra Electric has deployed 250 number of e-tractors across variants in various industries with a cumulative run of 3.25 lakhs km covered avoiding 750 tonnes of tailpipe CO2 so far.
