Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi flagged off 200 JBM Ecolife electric buses from Guwahati, Assam, marking a significant milestone in the country’s transition towards clean and sustainable mobility. Undertaken under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme, the rollout of JBM Ecolife electric buses across Guwahati, Bhavnagar and Nagpur is expected to benefit millions of citizens through access to clean, affordable and reliable public transport, contributing to improved urban mobility and enhanced quality of life.
Of the 200 electric 9-metre low-floor air-conditioned electric buses flagged off, 100 have been deployed in Guwahati, 50 in Bhavnagar and 50 in Nagpur, further strengthening sustainable public transport infrastructure across these key regions. With this addition, the total number of electric buses deployed by JBM across India has now crossed 3,200, operating across several states.
Designed for efficient intra-city operations, the electric buses feature modern commuter-centric amenities including CCTV cameras, automatic doors and accessibility provisions for senior citizens and differently abled passengers. They will operate across designated routes to enhance last-mile connectivity while reducing carbon emissions, supported by modern depot and charging infrastructure being developed for seamless operations.
“This milestone deployment underscores our deep commitment to shaping the future of sustainable and intelligent public transportation in India,” said Nishant Arya, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, JBM Auto, adding that, “As a nation, we are steadily progressing towards green mobility, and the flag-off of these electric buses from Guwahati by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India marks a defining moment in this journey. It reflects the power of visionary leadership, progressive policy and public–private collaboration in accelerating large-scale transformation. As we expand our footprint across cities, we remain focused on building a robust zero-emission mobility ecosystem through innovation, advanced manufacturing and integrated solutions that enhance everyday life for millions of citizens while contributing meaningfully to India’s net-zero aspirations.”
Over the last five years, JBM electric buses have clocked more than 300 million electric kilometres, served over 1 billion passengers and contributed to saving over 1 billion kilograms of CO2 emissions. These buses are manufactured at JBM’s integrated state-of-the-art facility, one of the largest electric bus manufacturing plants in the world (outside China), with an annual capacity of 20,000 electric buses.
This multi-city deployment further reinforces JBM’s leadership in India’s electric public mobility ecosystem and aligns with the nation’s vision of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
