order to boost the buying and use of electric vehicles in the commercial
vehicle as well as private passenger vehicle segments, the government is
proposing to hike the fees for issue and renewal of registration of vehicles
powered by ICE (internal Combustion Engine). Moreover, the government also
proposes to increase the fees for testing of commercial vehicles for fitness
renewal of certificate of fitness in respect of transport vehicles older than
15 years has been proposed to be conducted every six months from the current
requirement of testing once a year. In addition, the fees have been increased
further for conducting fitness test and grant and renewal of certificate of
fitness for transport vehciles.
Unlike in the case of private vehicles for
personal use where the vehicles have to go for a fitness test after 15 years
(rules for Delhi NCR are different as this region does not permit petrol
vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years to ply on
roads), transport or commercial vehicles will have to go for a fitness test
every two years up to eight years of age and every one year for vehicles older
than eight years. But once the transport vehicle completes 15 years, it needs
to go for a fitness test every six months.
