The 2015 BMW M4 Convertible sees BMW M GmbH replicating the performance of the new BMW M4 Coupe and M3 Sedan, with added benefit of a retractable hardtop. The new model finds BMW M GmbH in its fifth generation globally with this new chapter in its history.
According to a company statement, powering the BMW M4 Convertible is the newly developed in-line six-cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology. Maximum power output stands at 425bhp from its 3.0 litre engine and serves up peak torque of 55Nm across a wide rev band. The BMW M4 Convertible sprints from 0 to 100kmph in just 4.2 seconds with the optional seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission. A manual transmission variant will be available for the US market, but is unlikely to come to the Indian Market.
Like the BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe, the BMW M4 Convertible, the hood and front fenders are made of aluminium, as are many components of the high-performance chassis. Ultra-lightweight and strong carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) is employed in many areas of the new M4 Convertible. The drive shaft is just one example.
The use of CFRP enables the M4’s driveshaft to be constructed as one single piece which not only offers significant weight saving but a reduction in rotating masses as well. The CFRP high-precision front strut brace in the engine compartment, meanwhile, weighs only 1.5 kg yet offers rigidity superior to that of a comparable aluminium component. It provides an added measure of steering response and precision. The BMW M4 Convertible will arrive in US showrooms in late summer 2014 but no news of it being available in India till probably next year.
