Aston Martin have announced to revive the historic name Lagonda after 14 years on a bespoke limited edition super saloon for exclusively the Middle-East market who would probably be the only ones who could afford something which has a price tag that normal mortals around the world would probably never know, let alone afford.
The last time the Lagonda name appeared on an Aston was in the 1970’s when Aston Martin was struggling financially. Up until then the British iconic Sports car manufacturer only made 2+2 sports cars. So traditionally the way to go would be something striking and conforming to tastes of everyone to sell more cars. Aston had decided to go another way to make something they had never even tried. They made a 4 door saloon, and surprised everyone and drew deposits. The Aston Martin Lagonda designed by William Towns who also designed the 1967 DB-S changed the way Astons had looked in the past completely and was the first production car in the world to be fitted with a computer management system and a digital instrument panel. Only 645 Lagonda’s were produced between 1970 and 1990 making it quite a rare car and as has traditionally been the case, the Lagonda badge will once again sit proudly on a luxurious and exclusive super saloon.
Aston Martin claims that the luxury super saloon revives the Lagonda ethos of ‘the finest of fast cars’ will only be offered exclusively in the Middle East, as a result of specific market demand.
