Audi has announced an updated version of their high security A8 L Security which can be ordered now and will be launched in April 2016.
Audi will debut their new knight in disguised armor at the Frankfurt International Motor Show. The bullet proof A8 L will be powered by a 4.0L TFSI petrol powered bi-turbo V8 producing 435bhp and 600Nm of torque. As an option a W12 naturally aspirated FSI which churns out 500bhp and 625Nm of torque will also be available. With all the power sent to the Quattro all-wheel-drive system, the car is electronically limited to a top speed of 210kmph.
While all these armored high security luxury cars talk about the massive weight, Audi has worked on reducing it. The A8 L Security now has a VR 9 ballistic resistance certificate while the old one only had a VR 7 resistance. The cabin is protected ad luxuriated with aramide fabric, special aluminum alloys and a hot-formed steel armor that offers even more protection despite it going on a diet.
The A8 L Security will be built in partnership between the Neckarsulm plant and a secure, top secret factory. Standard security features of the luxury sedan include an armored communication box in the luggage compartment, an intercom for communication with the outside world and selective door unlocking. Upon request, Audi can deliver solutions such as its patented emergency exit system, a fire extinguishing system and an emergency fresh air system. Along with standard comfort features such as the relaxation seat at the rear, the customer can have anything they want with a simple request by reciprocating with their cheque book.
Thanks to the high share of aluminum in the body, the vehicle’s weight is relatively low. Nonetheless, it can handle a maximum payload of 600 kg (1,322.8 lb) , which is the best figure in the segment.
