Since the launch of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio in India at the 12th Auto Expo in Greater Noida, Maruti now celebrates the 100,000th unit of the Celerio in India in a matter of just less than one and a half years.
The Celerio was the first affordable car in India, or any car as a matter of fact to be offered with an Automatic Manual Transmission (AMT). This set a massive trend in the industry for automatic transmissions. Following its launch, many competitors started offering either AMT or CVT transmissions as the demand for them gradually started to grow.
RS Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “We thank customers for their support to brand Celerio. Celerio is the first car in India to introduce the acclaimed Auto Gear Shift technology and almost one third of the sales are of the Auto Gear Shift variants. Customers appreciated the convenience of automatic gear shifting with no loss in fuel efficiency on Celerio and within a year of its launch Maruti Suzuki’s share in the lower hatchback has shot up to 71% from 61%.”
The Celerio is the only car available in Manual and Auto Gear Shift transmissions with a Petrol variant, CNG variant and with the smallest Diesel motor in the world with only 800cc 3 cylinder engine which was launch recently in June 2015. The diesel motor also gives 27.3kmpl of fuel economy.”
