After assessing the market for quite some time, Volvo has now taken the Indian market seriously. After launching the all new XC90, the biggest car the company produces, the introduction of the smallest car Volvo makes the V40 a new addition to their model line-up.
Volvo has packed the V40 with so many gizmos of safety and support systems trickled down from their larger models, the V40 is now what Volvo calls the most “IntelliSafe’ car in its segment.
The V40 Hatchback will be available in two variants, the D3 Kinetic and the jaw dropping D3 R-Design. Both variants will come with a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder turbo charged diesel engine producing 150bhp mated to a 6-speed Geartronic gearbox with torque figures of 320Nm. While torque figures of the V40 and its competitors are roughly the same, the V40 packs 7bhp more than the closest competitor.
Tom von Bonsdorff, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India said, "I am excited about introducing V40 on the Indian roads. V40 represents a model which is premium in design, features, technology and safety redefining the compact luxury offering in the segment. It is way ahead of the competition when it comes to intelligent accident prevention and mitigation. The car will bring in new impetus to our growth strategy in India.”
The two variants will be priced as Rs.24. 75 lakh for the D3 Kinetic and Rs. 27.7 lakh for the R-Design. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi.
Included in the price is a panoramic sunroof only in the R-Design which stretches from the front windscreen all the way to the back rest of the rear seats along with the aggressive styling. Included as standard, with all the safety gizmos in both variant is the adaptive digital display instrument cluster that expresses emotional functionality, always displaying the most important information in any given situation right in front of the driver. The driver can choose between three graphic themes: Elegance, Eco and Performance. The safety features includes Pedestrian Airbag Technology, to keep the pedestrian alive if you do run over one which is highly likely in India every 10 metres, side impact protection systems, whiplash protection, driver knee airbag and a safety cage made of Boron.
