Volkswagen debuted its Sport Coupé Concept GTE at the Geneva
International Motor Show.. The GTE Sport Coupe Concept has a turbocharged 3.0
litre TSI, V6 direct-injection engine that produces 295bhp and 500Nm of torque.
The car has two electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery. The 54bhp
front motor has been integrated with the 6-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic
transmission. The electric motor at the rear of the car produces 114bhp. The
total power produced by GTE equals 374bhp.
Walter de Silva, Head of Design, Volkswagen AG, says, “Evolution and
revolution have come together in the Sport Coupé Concept GTE. The new concept
is based on Volkswagen’s design DNA, which has been visibly sharpened even
more. It shows how the highest-volume brand of our Group is shaping the
immediate future.” The GTE can cover almost 51km while in electric mode. The
GTE can accelerate from 0-100kmph in a matter of 5.0 seconds and has a total
range of almost 1200km on one tank of fuel.
The GTE Sport Coupe concept can achieve a combined top speed of
almost 255kmph using both the electric motors and the 3.0l engine. The new
concept car from Volkswagen can deliver almost 50km to the litre using a
combination of battery power and engine power. At the front of the car you can
see dynamic head lights, a radiator grille and the VW badge shaping a new design
philosophy for Volkswagens front end. The LED taillights have been designed to give
a 3D look.
On the inside of the GTE the instrument cluster houses a power meter
on the left and a speedometer on the right and an information display between
them. The car’s infotainment system can be operated by a 10.1 inch touchscreen
display. Alongside the infotainment
display is a touch-sensitive slider to control the car’s HVAC functions. Another
12.3 inch touch screen display is present for rear passenger to control the
media functions and is integrated between the individual front seats. Another
first time feature for Volkswagen is a driver biometric data based navigation.
An armband or a smart watch can be used to measure a driver’s vitals to decide
a particular route.
