Audi was the first luxury car maker in India to bring a 4-door sedan in the compact luxury segment with the A3 earlier this year. Today was another first for Audi as they rolled in the A3 Cabriolet into India for Rs.44,75,000/- ex-showroom Delhi.
Let us paint a picture for you. You are driving down the road on a bright sunny day, not a drop of rain in sight, but it’s not hot that you need the air conditioner. With the cool breeze swishing past, rolling down the windows doesn’t seem quite enough. So what do you do? Well if you have the A3 Cabriolet, just simply push a button and the roof above your head folds itself into the boot. So you and your 3 mates can enjoy the topless beauty in brilliant weather. Now how about that? Quite brilliant right?
The new A3 Cabriolet is powered by a 1.8 litre, 4 cylinder TFSI petrol engine, the same found in the standard A3 mated to the brilliant 7-speed S tronic dual clutch transmission for seamless gear changes. Just as it does in the hard top, the petrol engine produces 180bhp and 250Nm of torque. Thanks to the power and torque figures, the cabriolet has a top speed of 242kmph and it reaches 0-100kmph in just 7.8 seconds. Just like the A3 sedan, the cabriolet has an electromechanical power steering with ESC and an electronic limited slip differential as standard with 17 inch 5 spoke aluminium allow wheels. Another great quality about it is that the roof can come down or up on the move, as long as you are below 50kmph while you do it.
Every Audi comes with different packages and options on offer and the A3 Cabriolet is no exception. Fitted as standard the Cabriolet comes with automatic Bi-Xenon headlamps with LED DRLs and rear LED lights, rain sensing wipers, electronically adjustable and heated door mirrors, light weight fabric folding roof and an S Line exterior package. The interior features Audi’s deluxe 2-zone Air conditioning with spot/diffuse function climate control system, Milano Leather upholstery, a driver centric infotainment system with a 7-inch retractable screen and a multifunctional leather steering wheel. As an option, a Bang & Olufsen Sound System and Audi’s MMI Navigation plus is available with a touch sensitive rotary/push button control terminal for easy navigation. The top of the rotary/bush button can be used for letters and number inputs on the touch pad.
Joe King, Head, Audi India aptly stated that “The A3 Cabriolet perfectly embodies ‘Vorsprung durch technik’ and truly reflect ‘luxury without compromise’”.
So all that kit and all that power, luxury and toplessness for a whopping Rs.44.75lakhs seem a bit too much but blame the government for such high import taxes. We want more of these in India. Who doesn’t?
