Mercedes-Benz has added another lightweight sports coupe to its AMG range, the new S 63 AMG Coupe. This new coupe sports an AMG 5.5 litre biturbo V8 under the bonnet generating 585bhp of maximum power, making it the most powerful engine in Mercedes-Benz’s BlueDIRECT range. Added to that the S 63 AMG coupe has a peak torque rating of 900Nm, with the option of an AMG 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. Two models will be available, S63 AMG Coupe and S 63 AMG Coupe 4MATIC, sprinting from naught to 100kmph in 4.3 seconds and 3.9 seconds respectively. Both models are electronically restricted to 250kmph.
The S 63 AMG Coupe with rear-wheel drive features AMG sports suspension based on Magic Body Control. There is also a curve tilting function, which allows the S 63 AMG Coupe to lean into bends in a manner similar to a motorcyclist or skier. Apart from that the system also includes Road Surface Scan and Active Body Control (ABC) as a standard fitment. Mercedes has worked to great lengths to bring the weight down by 65 kilograms. This weight saving was achieved by the use of lightweight lithium-ion battery, AMG forged light-alloy wheels and a weight-optimised AMG high-performance composite braking system. Added to that, the entire outer skin and the front end of the body are made of aluminium.
