The new Jaguar Type 01, has been unveiled in New York. The new model, created by JLR’s world-class engineers and designers, is the most technically advanced, powerful and aerodynamic Jaguar ever engineered.
The launch of Type 01 marks a major milestone in the strategy JLR first set out for Jaguar in 2021. It establishes a distinct role for Jaguar within JLR's wider portfolio of brands, alongside Range Rover, Defender and Discovery, enabling the brand to address a different segment of the luxury market while supporting the company's long-term growth and continued investment.
JLR is targeting double-digit growth over the next five years, with three main drivers:
• Brand-led growth, targeting different customer segments to diversify growth
• More propulsion flexibility, keeping a mix of ICE, hybrid and BEV options across its brands, with Jaguar as uniquely all-electric
• Greater focus on North America as a priority growth market.
Since announcing its £15-18 billion five-year investment programme in 2024, JLR has invested £11.5 billion in engineering, designing and manufacturing its next-generation vehicles, with most of this investment spent in the UK.
Designed, engineered and manufactured in the UK, the investment in industrial footprint for Jaguar stretches across the Midlands and into the North West. Jaguar Type 01 will be built in Solihull using a dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), with Electric Drive Units (EDUs) and battery packs made in Wolverhampton, and pressed body panels manufactured in Halewood, Merseyside. Work on production lines is at an advanced stage, with production due to begin in 2027.
The investment into Solihull manufacturing for JLR’s next-generation vehicles, including Jaguar, is also supporting the long-term future of skilled automotive employment in the UK. Nearly 9,000 employees at JLR’s Solihull site have been re-trained to build electric vehicles with a further 1,500 colleagues trained across JLR’s wider West Midlands operations.
Jaguar production will also support thousands of businesses across the UK's automotive supply chain, including the 60,000 jobs sustained by JLR's wider supplier network in the West Midlands.
PB Balaji, CEO, JLR, said: “The unveiling of Type 01 marks the beginning of an exciting new era for Jaguar. Combining British heritage, bold creativity, advanced technology and groundbreaking engineering, it reflects our ambition to create objects of desire that will help us invite a new generation of clients into Jaguar’s loyal and passionate customer base. Designed, engineered and built in the UK, Jaguar is a copy of nothing and is a vital part of JLR's growth story, strengthening our House of Brands strategy and supporting long-term investment in British innovation, manufacturing and skills."
Built on JLR's bespoke JEA architecture the four-door GT offers:
• An 850-volt electrical architecture and 118kWh usable battery deliver an expected EPA range of up to 400 miles1. Sustained highway speed range of up to 320 miles2
