No, this is not the V-Cross with the new powertrain.
This one was launched a couple of months back and it merely comes with 20 new
features. In this report, we shall be concentrating on these new features and
see if they have missed out on some that should have been incorporated.
But before I go any further I have a confession to
make. Among all the vehicles that there on the Indian roads today, the Isuzu
D-Max V-Cross stands apart for its looks and personality. I find this butch
vehicle very majestic. It offers 5 seats, a large open deck that can carry
luggage and the only thing you need to do is to plan your vacation with this
The all new V-Cross carries the same price tag of the
previous model at Rs 15.54 lakh
(standard variant) and Rs 17.06 lakh (Z variant), ex-showroom, Delhi. We drove
the Z variant with a ruby red colour.
The two trim levels are basically ‘Standard Grade’ and
‘High Grade’ (Z) and come with two new colour options – Sapphire Blue and Silky
It now has a very sporty looking grille along with Bi-LED
headlamps and distinctive sharp lines. The fog lamps have chrome bezel that adds
style to its function. The vehicle comes with new diamond cut 18” alloy wheels
housed in flared wheel arches.
The vehicle gets sporty roof-rails and a new shark-fin
antenna. The newly designed side-step adds to the overall appeal and
functionality, while the all-black B-pillar adds to the good looks. The
upgraded rear chrome bumper and embedded LED tail-lamps complement the new
design lines flowing through the rear.
The new V-Cross comes with sporty full black interiors
on both the standard and high-grade (Z) variants. I found that the newly
contoured perforated leather seats in the high grade z variant provided premium
comfort. The dual-cockpit design is further enhanced by the contemporary
instrument cluster housing the new 3D Design Electroluminescent Meter and Gear
The dashboard, centre console and door highlights have
this piano black garnish. The second row USB charging port enables the rear
seat occupants to charge their devices at their own convenience.
The V-Cross now comes with PESS (Passive Entry &
Start Stop System). The PESS feature allows easy access to the vehicle while
adding convenience of starting & stopping the engine at the press of a
button. The new V-Cross is powered by a 134 hp, BSIV compliant, high pressure
Common Rail Fuel Injection Diesel Engine, the powertrain is mated to a 5 speed
Manual Transmission that delivers a maximum torque level of 320 Nm @ 1800-2800
Since it is the same powertrain, I shall not be
talking about it, except tell you all that the engine is quite a capable one
and the ride and handling too pretty good for a vehicle of this size.
The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross is equipped with off-roading
features like 4WD (shift-on-fly) drive mode, High Ride suspension that offers
higher ground clearance, wider track with longer wheel base. The chassis frame
is designed with iGRIP feature (Isuzu Gravity Response Intelligent Platform) that
ensures greater stability even at hi-speeds and sharp curves.
The new V-Cross also comes with steering mounted audio
controls and a 7” touch screen audio system with USB input, DVD, AUX, iPod and
The new V-Cross is equipped with a host of safety
features including the seat-belt with pre-tensioner and load limiter, speed
sensitive auto door lock, co-driver seat belt reminder, HSA (Hill Start Assist)
and HDC (Hill Descent Control), among others.
Besides the 20 new features this vehicle has got, I
would have preferred a few more. It could have had cup holders in the rear
centre arm rest, though there are a couple of them at the floor level. I wish
it had rear AC vents. I wish there were at least two USB chargers for the rear
passengers. There is only one. I also wish there was an adjustable head rest
for the middle passenger at the rear. There is none.
