BMW India has launched the third generation of the ‘Sports Activity Vehicle’—the all-new BMW X5. The BMW X5 xDrive30d will be produced at the company’s plant in Chennai in South India. The car will be available across India at BMW dealerships from June 2014 onwards.The BMW X5 was unveiled in the presence of Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India and legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. The BMW X5 xDrive30d has been priced at Rs 70,90,000. This is an ex showroom all India price. Delivery will be made ex-showroom. Ex-showroom prices (inclusive of VAT@12. 5%) but excludes Road Tax, RTO statutory taxes/fees, Insurance and Octroi (if applicable).For record’s sake, the unique segment of a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) was created by BMW with the X5. The car was Sports Activity Vehicle that had off road capabilities and yet could be driven like a sports car.The masculine looking X5 comes with adaptive LED Headlights. Inside the cockpit, all the controls, such as the drive Touch Controller, are fully geared towards the driver. The seats for driver and front passenger feature lumbar support and a memory function. The third row of seats includes two individual fold-down seats facing the direction of travel. The second row of seats can be folded down using the Easy Entry Function.The car also comes with a two-part tailgate to provide easy access to smaller luggage items. The lower section opens up to create a platform capable of supporting up to 250 Kg. The rear seatback can be reclined at a 40:20:40 split. This can also be fully folded down, resulting in increasing space in the compartment to 1870 liters.The BMW X5 comes with a TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder in-line 3 liter diesel engine. The engine combines Common Rail direct injection and a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry to deliver a power output of 258 HP and a torque of 560 NM. As for the acceleration, it does 0 to 100 km/hour in 6.9 seconds. The top speed of the vehicle is 230 km/h. The engine is mated to an eight-speed Sport automatic transmission.The X5 comes as standard with BMW xDrive. This is an intelligent all-wheel drive system that monitors the driving situation constantly and distributes drive power smoothly between the axles. This technological wonder splits drive variably to the front and rear axles, depending on the driving situation and the surface.Source: BMW.
