passenger car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India Limited sold a total of 151,215 units
in April 2017. Maruti Suzuki had sold a total of 126,569 units in April 2016,
thereby registering a 19.5pc growth. Total sales included 144,492 units in
domestic market and 6,723 units of exports. Domestic sales actually grew by 23.1
per cent in April to 144492 units (117045 units). However, exports dropped by
as much as 29.4pc as compared to 6723 units (9524 units).
compact cars that include the Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno, Dzire and Dzire
tour grew to 63584 units in April 2017 from 45700 units in the corresponding
period last year. The Ciaz model which has now been shifted to the Nexa
distribution channel has also done well with sales of 7024 units this April
(5702 units), growing by 23.2pc. Equally good was the performance of Maruti
Suzuki utility vehicles that grew by 28.6pc to 20,638 units (16044 units). The
utility vehicles of Maruti Suzuki include Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross and Vitara
Brezza. The van category consisting of the Omni and the Eeco recorded a minus 4
pc sales dropto 13938 units (14520
