Indian two-wheeeler manufacturer TVS Motor Company has launched India’s first ethanol based motorcycle – TVS Apache RTR 200 Fi E100. This bio-fuel powered motorcycle has been priced at Rs 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom) and will be available in the states of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka.
The motorcycle was launched in the presence of Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways of India & Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog, and Venu Srinivasan, Chairman, TVS Motor Company.
Ethanol is domestically produced from renewable plant sources. It is non-toxic, biodegradable, as well as safe to handle, store and transport. An oxygenated fuel that contains 35% oxygen, ethanol reduces nitrogen oxide emissions from combustion. Apart from this, ethanol also helps reduce carbon monoxide emissions, particulate matter and sulphur-di-oxide.
TVS Motor Company first showcased the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ethanol concept in Auto Expo 2018 held in Delhi. The bike sports a vibrant interplay of green graphics seamlessly woven with the ‘Ethanol’ logo. It is equipped with a Twin-Spray-Twin-Port EFI technology. The ethanol powered Apache is capable of producing 20.6hp@8500rpm with a peak torque of 18.1Nm@7000rpm. It can reach a top speed of 129kmph according to the official figure. The use of ethanol should prove to be more budget friendly for owners as it costs less than petrol.
