Extremely flat sales of the Inazuma motorcycle have literally forced motorcycle manufacturer Suzuki Motorcycles India to slash the price of the bike by almost Rs 1 lakh. The motorcycle was launched end-January 2014 a little before the Auto Expo 2014. At the launch it was generally felt that the bike was overpriced. It was launched at a price of Rs 3.01 lakh. At much lower prices one could get the likes of KTM Duke 200, the CBR 250R, etc. Bowing to consumer demands, Suzuki Motorcycles have slashed the price of the Inazuma of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2.09 Lakh (Ex-Showroom Delhi)..According to the latest SIAM data, Suzuki produced 11 Inazuma bikes in April-May 2014 but managed to sell only three. In May, Suzuki manufactured 2 but failed to sell a single unit. In the months from January to March 2014, the company produced 49 motorcycles and managed to sell 44 units. Sales began petering out almost immediately after the launch, to March 2014 figure being a mere 4 units sold. This was a wake-up call for the company.Suzuki Motorcycle India Limited (SMIL), a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, launched the 250 cc Suzuki Inazuma in two colors – black and red. In Japanese, the word ‘Inazuma’ denotes lightning that strikes during a thunderstorm. The company claims that the customers were highly interested in the product, but were put off by the high price tag, which eventually led to the company to make a decision to cut down on the price. The 4 stroke, 2 cylinder 250cc engine that powers the Inazuma will remain as standard with the same power output of 24 bhp. Unconfirmed reports say that those who bought the bike in the earlier months will be compensated for this price cut.
