With electric vehicles being the need of the hour, Okinawa Autotech
Pvt. Ltd. launched their new electric scooter - Ridge for an ex-showroom price
of Rs. 43,702 (ex-showroom Delhi). Amongst a slew of other electric products
which are available in the Indian market, the Okinawa Ridge stands out with a
capability of reaching speeds in excess of 55kmph with a fast charging time of
just one to two hours. The Ridge has been designed to appeal to a diverse age
group from 18-60 year olds.
The normal charge duration for their lineup of scooters is between
4-6 hours but the company is also offering a fast charging option which can
recharge the batteries in less than half that time. Okinawa is also planning on
launching new models with a capability of covering 200kms on a single charge, a
feat not achieved by any e-scooter available in India up to now. The company
also plans to showcase a line up for electric motorcycles at the upcoming EV
expo. At present the Okinawa Ridge achieves a localisation of 65pc, but aims to
achieve 100pc localisation in the next 3-4 months, once quality standards are
met with Indian suppliers.
The Ridge e-scooter offers customers a very contemporary design
along with features like an anti theft alarm system, digital speed-o-meter,
central locking smart controller as well as Eco and Power drive modes. The
scooter is available in four colour options with a loading capacity of 150kgs and
under seat storage space as well. The company also plans to launch a Li-ion
powered variant for the Ridge which will be a little more costly than the
present Led Acid battery powered variant which was launched today.
Powering the Ridge e-scooter is a 60 V battery which produces a max
power of 800 Watts. The e-scooter gets a range of 80-90kms and is capable of
climbing gradients upto 15 degrees. The two wheeler rides on a telescopic fork
in the front and a double shocker with dual tube technology in the rear.
Braking is facilitated by drum brakes on both wheels. The company also has
plans to introduce features like accident detection, app-enabled vehicle
maintenance and a smart controller based road positioning system on its
