Following a major fire on May
29, 2016 (Sunday) that gutted almost the entire facility of Subros in Manesar,
supplies of components from the plant to Maruti Suzuki plant have been disrupted
and as a result Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has temporarily suspended manufacture
of cars at its facilities in Manesar and Gurgaon, starting second half of

the unfortunate incident of fire at the Manesar facilities of our supplie, M/s Subros Limited, on Sunday
(May 29), supplies of components from the palnt have been disrupted. As a
consequence, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd will have to temporarily suspend
manufacture of cars at its facilities in Manesar and Gurgaon, starting second
half Monday (May 30,” the company in a statement to Bombay Stock Exchange
The BSE statement from the
company further noted that “Subros Limitied and Maruti Suzuki are jointly
assessing the extent of damage to essential equipment. We are also examining
the options available to start supply of components from other facilities.
Production will resume as soon as components become available”.
Subros is a leading player in
car air conditioning. The plant been set up in Manesar in vicinity of the
Maruti Suzuki Ltd factory on a land area of 38000 sq mts was equipped with
latest state of the art manufacturing and testing facilities.
The Manesar plant makes
automotive air-conditioners for Maruti Suzuki and other vehicle manufacturers.
The fire which raged for several hours beginning in the afternoon, gutted
almost the entire plant but according to reports, no injuries have been
reported to workers.
Subros is a joint venture with
a 40pc stake held by the Suri family and 13pc each by Denso Corp & Suzuki
The company has grown from a
capacity of 15,000 AC units in 1985 comprising of largely an assembly
operation, into the largest and only integrated manufacturing unit in India for
Auto Air Conditioning systems. Subros manufactures compressors, Condensers,
Heat Exchangers and all connecting elements required to complete AC loop and
caters to all segments viz. Passenger Vehicles, Buses, Trucks, Refrigeration
Transport, off- roaders & Railways.
Subros has manufacturing
plants at Noida (2 nos.), Manesar, Pune, Chennai and Sanand with an annual
capacity of 1.5 Million AC Kits per annum beside a well equipped R&D Centre
and Tool Room at Noida.
