Peter T Honegg will succeed Dr. Wilfried Aulbur as the new MD & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India. According to a company press release, Honegg has been with Daimler AG since 1976 and is presently the President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia. “Mr. Honegg has rich experience of managing high growth markets and is expected to take upon his new role in first quarter 2011," said the release. According to information available on the public domain, Honegg was born in Stuttgart on Nov 1, 1955, Honegg earned a scholarship from Mercedes Benz in 1976 and worked in the company as a salesman in 1980 for two years. He then joined the export department for eight years, after which he became the general manager responsible for export of commercial vehicles in eastern Europe. In 1992, Honegg was promoted to regional director of Mercedes Benz Iran and three years later, was transferred back home (Stuttgart) as Asia-Pacific marketing and sales vice-president. In mid-1998, he moved to Singapore to oversee Mercedes Benz’s South-East Asia operations, following which, he was tasked with overseeing the firm’s operations in China and Hong Kong in 2002. Four years later, he took over the reins of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, a post he currently holds. Honegg has a background in bio-medicine.
