Headquartered in Amsterdam, TomTom has over 3,500 employees and sells its products in over 40 countries. After 10 years of presence in India spent in developing maps for India and the rest of the world, TomTom is increasing its local capabilities to 400 people by year end with further plans for growth in 2012, not including the over 1200 dedicated contractors. With its 20 years of map making experience, over 50 million portable navigation devices sold worldwide,17 pc share of the European in-dash market share in 2010, and relentless dedication to car navigation, TomTom is uniquely positioned to understand and tackle the emerging navigation market in India offering a breadth of solutions for PNDs, mobile platforms and in-dash solution. “There is no doubt that the navigation market in India is growing briskly and looking for high quality easy to use navigation solutions. With the extensive experience that TomTom is bringing to the region coupled with its global quality standards and processes we can change the current regional landscape” states Jocelyn Vigreux, Managing director, TomTom India. TomTom’s automotive-grade quality maps of India, offering navigable data covering the entire country with street level details, will be the back bone of the VIA range of products dedicated to the India market to be available in Q4 of 2011. TomTom has based its global success not only on the quality of its maps but by always bringing to the market the most user friendly interface creating new product categories. “We are putting a lot of effort in developing products made specifically for India, which take into account regional specifications,” adds Vigreux. Since TomTom entered the Indian market it has achieved significant growth of its overall coverage and content and is one of the largest map content providers in India.
