Dr. Farooq Abdullah felicitated the winning teams. Prestige Public school, Indore & Saupins school, Chandigarh bagged the first runner up & second runner up position respectively.
The AWIM Jet Toy Olympics is a program for secondary school students providing them an opportunity to learn concepts of inertia, friction and laws of motion as they design and make their dream cars. This year’s AWIM Jet Toy Olympics finale saw 26 school teams comprising of 104 students from across India.
Maruti Suzuki teamed up with SAEINDIA to facilitate this initiative for school children. Through such initiatives, Maruti Suzuki is connecting with the youth and school children to nurture their skills in automotive technology.
Congratulating the winners, Mr. I V Rao, Managing Executive Officer, Engineering, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said “We are proud to be associated with this initiative. As largest car manufacturer our objective through events like AWIM Jet Toy Olympics is to connect with students in their formative years and provide them an out-of-classroom experience to understand the basics of science and engineering.”
In the course of this year’s competition, Maruti Suzuki engineers have invested time & talent to train around 1,400 students and 40 teachers from 32 schools in NCR region. As part of the competition the students are provided with a kit containing raw material to build the toy car. Each student team gets a toy kit covering different automotive aspects.
Students made balloon powered toy cars that meet specific performance criteria like distance traveled, weight carrying capacity, speed and accuracy. In this challenge students explored Jet propulsion, friction, air resistance, force and design which form the core scientific concepts.
A distinguished panel of judges from the automobile industry judged these toy cars on parameters such as innovation, creativity, communication, ideas and presentation.
