Matter Motor Works, the deep-tech company behind the Aera, India's first geared electric motorcycle, announced the raise of its $25 million (Rs 240 crore) growth capital, anchored by existing investors doubling down as Aera waitlists continue to grow.
Over the next 12 months, Matter will deploy the capital against three priorities: expanding manufacturing and supply-chain capacity to keep pace with order growth; scaling brand-building and distribution investment across markets; and broadening the product line, four new motorcycle launches ahead, extending the Aera platform into new variants and rider segments.
"We're honoured that our existing investors have doubled down: they backed the AERA before it shipped, and they've re-invested now that demand has proven the thesis. This capital accelerates two things at once, the growth engine that demand has already earned, and the product roadmap it unlocks: four new motorcycles built on the platform behind India's first geared electric motorcycle, backed by 111 granted patents," said Mohal Lalbhai, Founder and Group CEO, Matter.
The round brings total capital raised by Matter to date to around Rs 1,000 crore through marquee investors including Helena, Capital 2B, Japan Airlines & Translink Innovation Fund, and the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC), of which over Rs 750 crore has already been deployed across manufacturing, R&D, and market entry.
Technology built in-house, protected by 111 patents
Matter designs its core technology in-house, powertrain, battery systems, control electronics and software and manufactures the heart of the vehicle itself: battery, powertrain and vehicle assembly, supported by a network of 150+ suppliers. This approach is protected by a portfolio of 111 granted patents and is expressed in the Aera through:
? The HyperShift transmission, India's first 4-speed manual gearbox on an electric motorcycle, preserving the geared riding experience that defines motorcycling for millions of Indian riders while delivering electric performance.
? A liquid-cooled battery pack, engineered in-house for thermal stability, performance consistency, and longevity, the foundation of Matter's Lifetime Battery Warranty.
? An onboard charging system that charges from any standard 5-amp household socket, with 172 km certified range per charge.
? A 7" connected touchscreen with navigation, music, and call integration.
Four new motorcycles on the Aera platform
A defined share of the round funds Matter's next product cycle: four new motorcycles built on the Aera platform over the next 12 to 24 months, extending into new variants and rider segments. Each launch draws on the same in-house powertrain, battery and software stack, and on learnings from lakhs of real-world kilometres already on the road.
