Suzuki Motorcycle India is celebrating 20 years of its journey in India, marking two decades of building strong customer trust, delivering reliable products, and evolving alongside India’s mobility needs.
Rooted in Suzuki’s global philosophy, SMIPL’s journey followed a customer-first approach, focus on innovation through teamwork and a drive for continuous improvement. These principles have shaped SMIPL’s growth in India.
Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) entered the Indian two wheeler market in 2006, with the launch of the Suzuki Heat 125 and Suzuki Zeus 125 in the motorcycle segment and subsequently strengthened its product offerings with the introduction of its Suzuki Access 125 scooter in 2007.
Over the years, SMIPL has expanded its product portfolio to cater to diverse customer needs, ranging from everyday commuting to performance oriented motorcycling.
Speaking on completion of 20 years in India, Kenichi Umeda, Managing Director, Suzuki Motorcycle India, noted, “Marking 20 years of start of production in India is a significant milestone for all of us at SMIPL. This journey has been made possible by the trust and support of our customers, dealer partners, suppliers, and employees, who have stood by us at every step. Through gradual expansion of our product portfolio, sustained investments in manufacturing, and focus on quality and reliability, we have steadily scaled our presence in India.
This progress has enabled us to build an ecosystem founded on trust and collaboration, with presence across all states through 1,240 touchpoints and strong partnerships with 212 suppliers. Together, these efforts helped in bringing smiles to our customers.”

“At the heart of our approach lies ‘One-by-One’ way of working, which emphasizes delivering the highest quality in every unit and highest hospitality to every customer, ensuring the best possible experience at every step of their journey with Suzuki.
Ongoing product innovation and increasing customer demand encouraged us to roll out new offerings, including the e Access, Access with ABS, and the recently introduced Burgman Street. This further led us to the initiation of groundwork for our second manufacturing plant at Kharkhoda. Looking ahead, our future growth strategy will be guided by a multi-pathway approach to carbon neutrality, integrating diverse fuel and power solutions best suited to India,” added Kenichi Umeda.
Over the last two decades, SMIPL’s growth in India has been driven by a diverse and evolving product portfolio, alongside key milestones. At the centre of this journey is the Suzuki Access, which helped establishing the 125cc scooter segment followed by the Suzuki Burgman, which redefined the luxury scooter space and the sporty Avenis, together offering a well rounded scooter range to match diverse customer needs. Performance-oriented motorcycles such as the GIXXER series, the versatile V Strom SX, along with big-bikes like the Hayabusa, GSX-8R, V-Strom 800 DE, have strengthened Suzuki’s presence across segments.
