Unmindful of the family feud and the court case accompanying it, the recently concluded 65th Annual Session of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) held in New Delhi on September 12, 2025 saw the presence of Priya Sachdev Kapur, wife of late Sunjay Kapur of Sona Comstar at the event. Her presence at the event was truly symbolic.
In fact, at the start of the session, ACMA paid tribute to the late Sunjay Kapur of automotive components major Sona Comstar. Priya attended the ACMA meeting in her capacity as director of Aureus Investment (AIPL), the family investment arm of the Kapurs that holds the promoter stake in Sona Comstar . She attended the session for a very brief time. She was wearing a traditional, yet very elegant, georgette lakhnavi suit with embellished thread work on it. Not to be missed was her late husband’s image as a wallpaper on her mobile phone.
The annual session of ACMA opened with a tribute to Sanjay Kapur. A few words were spoken by Shradha Suri Marwah, President, ACMA & Chairperson & Managing Director, Subros Ltd. A two-minute silence was observed and Marwah announced the presence of Priya among the audience, who was seated in the second row.
Priya was immediately mobbed by camerpersons. She spent very little time at the event, meeting Marwah, Anjali Singh of Dana Anand India and Vikrampati Singhania, President designate , Acma and Managing Director, JK Fenner (India).
Sunjay Kapur was chairman of Sona Comstar when he died reportedly of a heart attack in June this year after swallowing a bee while play polo in England. He was an enthusiastic sportsman and a keen polo player. After his death, Priya was named a director of AIPL and also a non-executive director of Sona Comsar.
Priya is, at present , embroiled in a legal battle not just with Rani Kapur, wife of late Dr Surinder Kapur who started and nurtured the Sona group, but also Sunjay’s former wife Karisma Kapur (an erstwhile Bollywood actress) who has filed a case in the Delhi High Court seeking a share in Sunjay’s property worth Rs 30,000 crore on behalf of her two children from her marriage with Sunjay. Sunjay was married to Karisma Kapur from 2003 to 2016. They have two children Samaira (20 years) and Kiaan (15 years). He later married Priya Sachdev in 2017, after a bitter divorce with Karisma.
Priya Sachdev’s first husband was Vikram Chatwal, an American hotelier of Indian origin. They were married from 2006 to 2011, after which they divorced. They have a daughter Safira Chatwal. While Priya’s first child Safira is now 18 years old, she has a son through Sunjay by the name of Azarias. He is six years old.
Incidentally, Sunjay had married his first wife Nandita Mahtani, a fashion designer in 1996, a marriage that lasted till 2000. The two did not have any children.
