India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Limited (IYM) has announced the appointment of Roy Kurian as its National Business Head. Until now he was working as the Zonal Head (South) of the aforementioned Japanese bikemaker. The move comes on the back of Pankaj Dubey, ex-national business head, putting in his papers to explore opportunities outside the automotive industry. Roy Kurian, said in a statement, "Last year's growth has been a boon to the auto industry. To have the momentum despite the high petrol price, the government should not touch excise duty at all. A focus on credit availability to 2 wheeler loans and reasonable interest rates could boost sales. The customs duty on steel, aluminium, etc. should not be raised as it will put pressure on the pricing of automobiles in general and 2 wheelers in particular." Yamaha made its initial foray into India in 1985. In August 2001, Yamaha India became a 100 pc subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd, Japan (YMC). In 2008, Mitsui & Co., Ltd. entered into an agreement with YMC to become a joint-investor in the motorcycle manufacturing company "India Yamaha Motor Private Limited (IYM)". IYM operates from its state-of-the-art manufacturing units at Surajpur in Uttar Pradesh and Faridabad in Haryana and produces motorcycles both for domestic & export markets.
