Mercedes-Benz India has announced that its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Dr Wilfried Aulbur will resign by end-2010. Dr Aulbur has been at the helm of affairs of this German company for the last five years. Dr Aulbur is married to an Indian Rekha Srinivasan. Dr Aulbur, a German, completed his doctoral and post-doctoral studies in physics in the US. He had earlier worked for Mercedes-Benz India in the early 80s, before re-joining it in 2005 as its chief. “Dr Aulbur will be successfully completing his fifth year as the MD and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India by the end of 2010. Dr Aulbur will remain with Mercedes-Benz India till a successor is identified to ensure a smooth transition,” said a company statement. During Dr Aulbur's tenure, the company established its truck and bus business and expanded its research and sourcing operations in India. He has successfully established the luxury car maker as a serious player in India with sales of passenger cars steadily increasing in the last five years. Dr Aulber is known not only for his smart business acumen and solid knowledge of the Indian car market, but also for his extremely cultured personality. It is not know as to which assignment he would take up after he leaves Mercedes.
