Effective July 15th, Vincent Tan has been appointed to the role of president of Volvo Construction Equipment’s Asian sales & marketing organisation. Based at the company’s Asian headquarters in Singapore, Tan, who is a Singaporean national, will take the helm of this strategically important sales region for Volvo CE: important both in terms of present sales and in the significant growth that is expected to come from across the Asian region in the coming years. Since joining Volvo in 2000, Tan has played an important role in the development of Volvo CE’s distribution network in Asia, especially in China and India. In his most recent position Tan was the president of the rapidly growing South East Asian sub-region. Prior to joining Volvo, Tan was Director of Ingersoll-Rand’s operations in South East Asia. He holds degrees in mechanical engineering (Singapore Polytechnic) and economics (University of London). Tan succeeds Eberhard Wedekind, who was recently appointed Executive Vice President of sales & marketing. Tan will report to Wedekind, who, commenting on Tan’s appointment said: “Vincent knows Asia inside out, and – as he has shown in his role in South East Asia – has proved that he can grow a business in a profitable way. Not only that, he is well-respected, by our customers, dealers and employees. His leadership role now is to build on the solid platform we have established in Asia, further developing markets such as Indonesia and in South East Asia where there is tremendous potential for growth.”
