With just a month away for the 2014 Auto Expo in Greater Noida, the auto industry continues to slide. Sales for the month of December 2013 remained negative across different segments of passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three-wheelers and two-wheelers. The only sub-segments that showed a positive growth was scooters and scooterettes that grew by 29.87pc. The domestic sales for December 2013 were 301714 units as compared to 232343 units in December 2012. The three wheel goods carrier segment witnessed a 6.7pc from 7677 units in December 2012 units to 8191 units in December 2013.
According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), from April to December 2013, the overall domestic sales across the different segments grew marginally by 2.30pc over the same period last year. Again this is because of growth in two wheelers sales. Two wheelers registered growth of 5.40pc during April-December 2013 over April-December 2012. Within the two wheelers segment, scooters and motorcycles grew at 19.89pc and 2.48pc respectively, while mopeds declined by (-) 10.64pc in April-December 2013 over April-December 2012.
The sales of passenger vehicles declined by (-) 5.72pc during April-December 2013 over the same period last year. Within the passenger vehicles, passenger cars, utility vehicles and vans dropped by (-) 4.92pc, (-) 4.39pc and (-) 15.06pc respectively during April-December 2013 compared to the same period last year.
The overall commercial vehicles segment registered a de-growth of (-) 18.38pc in April-December 2013 as compared to the same period last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered negative growth at (-) 26.92pc and Light Commercial Vehicles also dropped by (-) 13.90pc.
Three wheelers sales declined by (-) 9.31pc in April-December 2013 over the same period last year. Passenger carriers and goods carriers declined by (-) 10.38pc and (-) 4.37pc respectively in April-December 2013 over April-December 2012.
