Veteran automotive industry leader Ravi Kant, who was the Non-Executive Vice Chairman of Tata Motors, retired from the Board of the Company on May 31, 2014. As per the company’s retirement policy, he had to retire on attaining the age of 70. The Board of Directors of Tata Motors placed on record its appreciation of the contribution of Ravi Kant during his tenure with the company. Kant was the Managing Director of the company for the period July 29 2005 to June 1, 2009. Thereafter, he served the company in the capacity of Non-Executive Vice Chairman.Cyrus P Mistry, Chairman, Tata Sons and Tata Motors, on behalf of the Tata Motors Board thanked Kant for his valuable contribution in the growth of the company. He wished him the very best for the future.Kant was also at one point of time the chairman of Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Company, Hispano Carrocera and Tata Cummins, besides being on the board of several Tata companies. A product of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and Aston University, Birmingham, UK, Kant has made immense contribution to the Indian automotive industry.Ravi Kant also served as president of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the body representing automobile manufacturers in the country. Considered to be close to former Chairman of the group Ratan Tata, this former MD of Tata Motors played an active role in the company’s acquisition of Jaguar Land Rover and also Daewoo Motors of South Korea. He also was instrumental in expanding Tata Motors network to foreign countries.
