Ssangyong Motor, part of the Mahindra Group, announced that the company sold a total of 10,147 vehicles in September 2012 – 4,036 in domestic sales and 6,111 in exports including CKD, respectively. The 11.1pc increase in sales compared to the last month was thanks to the increased number of working days and decreased back orders for some refreshed models. Domestic sales in Korea were at 4,036 vehicles an increase of 34.5pc compared to the same period last year and 8.9pc higher compared to the last month respectively. This was thanks to the positive upward trend in sales of refreshed models such as the Korando Sports. It is also the first time in two months since July that the company has sold more than 4,000 vehicles in Korean market. The sales of the Korando C and Korando Sports increased by 7.8pc and 9.1pc respectively compared to the previous month, while sales of the Rexton W decreased by 4.3pc. Ssangyong’s exports stood at 6,111 vehicles with a 12.5pc increase from the last month thanks to the increased number of working days. It is the first time in three months since June that the company has sold more than 6,000 vehicles for export. However, compared to the same period last year, exports decreased by 6% due to the sluggish global auto market and the European economic depression. Ssangyong Motor has expanded Car Allowance Rebate Program, which was introduced in July, to take advantage of the specific consumption tax relief program which is a part of the Korean government’s stimulus package to boost domestic consumption. The company also plans to increase its sales by organizing various customer participation events. Lee Yoo-il, CEO of Ssangyong Motor, commented, “The sales show positive recovery as the number of working days increased and the back orders issue from some assembly lines has been solved.” He added “still there are difficulties such as the economic depression in the European market. However, Ssangyong Motor will expand its global sales by using a differentiated marketing strategy and reinforced export product lineups.”
