Simon Edwards, Ricardo’s global director of technology, has been appointed to chair EARPA, the influential association of automotive R&D organisations across Europe Founded in 2002, EARPA – the European Automotive Research Partners Association – brings together over 40 of the most prominent R&D providers in the European automotive sector. It is independent of any external body and funded only by its members, which range from large and small commercial organisations to national institutes and universities, according to a Ricardo statement.
As a platform for automotive researchers, EARPA aims to actively contribute to the European Research Area and to future EU Framework research programmes, promoting close co-operation with the automotive industry, automotive suppliers, the oil industry, European Institutions and EU Member States.
Ricardo – one of the founding members of EARPA – is very active in the European research area. Neville Jackson, chief technology and innovation officer at Ricardo, said, “We would like to warmly congratulate Simon on his appointment as chair of EARPA. It is a tribute to the breadth and depth of his own experience in automotive R&D, and also constitutes recognition of Ricardo’s strong commitment to commercially focused research and development – in Europe and beyond”.
