Leading commercial vehicle and engine manufacturer and Abhay Firodia controlled Force Motors has entered into a non-binding term sheet with Rolls Royce Power System AG (R-RPS) to form an Indian joint venture company for producing engines for power generation and rail application.
Besides, the joint venture will produce complete power generation systems, including associated spare parts for Indian and global markets.
The Indian joint venture company will also be building a dedicated facility at the Force Motors existing premises in Chakan, Pune in the state of Maharashtra.
Force Motors had in June 2016 inaugurated a new engine and axle assembly plant exclusively for Mercedes-Benz India in Chakan, Pune. The Firodia controlled company had invested around Rs 100 crore in the new greenfield facility. The plant has an annual capacity of 20,000 engines and 20,000 front and rear axles.
Force Motors also has a dedicated engine and parts assembly plant in Chakan for BMW.
Rolls Royce Power Systems portfolio includes high speed engines and propulsion systems for ships, power generation, heavy land, rail and defense vehicles. Rolls Royce has customers in more than 150 countries. Its customers include 400 airlines, 160 armed forces, 70 navies and more than 4000 power and nuclear customers.
Force Motors is also the only company in the world that produces engines for two of the leading European premium car makers Mercedes and BMW. This new joint venture with Rolls Royce opens up a complete new business opportunity with great potential for growth.
