The iconic British car MINI (owned by BMW) now comes with five doors. This is the first time the British premium brand is represented with a 5 door model in the small car segment. The MINI from BMW is available in India, but one has to wait a while, perhaps, for this five-door version to be available here.The wheel base of the car has been extended by 72 mm (to 2,567 mm) creating space for three seats in the rear.The luggage compartment space has increased to 278 liters, 67 liters more than in the 3 door model.The new MINI 5 door will be available in four model variants --two petrol and two diesel engines. The MINI Cooper 5 door has a 136 HP 3-cylinder petrol engine, the MINI Cooper S 5 door has a 192 HP 4-cylinder petrol engine, the MINI Cooper D 5 door has a 3-cylinder diesel engine producing 116 HP power and the MINI Cooper SD 5 door features a new 4-cylinder diesel engine presented for the first time with an output of 170 HP. The car comes with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, while a 6-speed Steptronic transmission or Steptronic sports transmission is an optional extra. The car also features an auto start/stop function and optional GREEN mode.There is an electromechanical power steering with Servotronic function that comes as standard.There is an instrument cluster on the steering column showing road speed and engine speed, color display for vehicle status details and fuel level.The central instrument has new display elements and colored lighting configuration, including LED ring for visual feedback in response to numerous functions. The operation of navigation, entertainment, telephone and vehicle functions is done using MINI Controller in center console. The start/stop button at the center of the toggle switch bar on the center console can be activated without key inserted.The car also boasts of a wide range of innovative driver assistance systems like MINI Head-Up-Display, Parking Assist, rear view camera and Driving Assistant including camera-based active cruise control, collision and pedestrian warning with initial brake function, high beam assistant and road sign detection.Source: BMW / MINI.
